Danbury Real Estate

Danbury was an important supply depot for the Continental Army in the Revolutionary War. On April 27, 1777 the British troops burned Danbury. The turning point of the great war in which our forefathers won their liberty was at Danbury when General David Wooster chased the British into Ridgefield along Ridgebury Road. The British troops were waylaid by Wooster and were completely routed.

The heroine of these events was none other than a 16-year-old farm-girl named Sybil Ludington. Sybil and her horse, Star, likely rode further and harder through heavy rain at midnight to muster the troops than Paul Revere but never received due recognition for her valor.

Danbury was known as The Hat Capitol of the World for generations due to the dominant industry of manufacturing men's felt hats. Hence the name of The Hat City Real Estate Team and the McLachlan Family's long history as successful hat manufacturers.

The Great Danbury State Fair was a stupendous part of life in the Hat City. The owner of the Fair in my generation was John W. Leahy who created "Danbury Day" on Friday of Fair week in early October with factories and schools closed for the day and free tickets for every pupil in Danbury schools. On Saturday nights from April to Labor Day weekend we had stock car racing at the Danbury Fair Racearena!
